Can Custom Fit Golf Clubs Really Help Your Swing?

Posted on July 9, 2018

Lately we have been testing a very select group of people using Trackman and a K-Vest which is a human motion learning system worn by the golfer while they swing the club. Dr. Lynn Beasley and myself want to see how a change in equipment relates not only to their ball flight but also to their Bio Mechanics during their swing.hitting-bays

A properly fit golf club enables the golfer to hit good shots more consistently. Surprised? No we weren’t either. However, to have data from another source that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is simply true is great news. Golfers are truly able to use their bodies correctly which will not only allow them to hit golf shots better but they will be less susceptible to injury while doing it.

Last week we were working with a gentleman who is a very good player with a strong swing.  He was previously fit into golf clubs which had lighter, softer shafts simply because he is 69 years old.   With these shafts he has been having trouble with his distance control. His irons were of the stronger lofted variety. I had him test a more normal lofted iron with a heavier, stiffer, steel shaft and the results were instantly better. Not only did he not lose any distance over the “distance” irons but his consistency returned along with the feeling of knowing where the golf club is again. We tried this same test in his driver using the NovaTech 8000 and he was able to get back the 30 yards he had lost when he was changed to a lighter weight shaft.

That was just the Trackman results.

We had him hit on a force plate (a device used to measure pressure on the ground) while wearing the K-Vest. The first thing we noticed was that he instantly improved his transition from backswing to down swing. Prior to making the change all of his weight was moving out towards his toes. With the new KZG clubs he was now using the ground correctly he also began to start rotating his body through the shot and finish with more balance in his follow through. More testing is needed and we will continue to work with new innovative products, so keep your eyes open as I will be posting our results here.

At the KZG Performance Center we are always looking for ways to stay on top of the game and improve our performance and knowledge, the same as you are always looking for ways to improve yours. When you come to us to be fit for your golf clubs you can rest assured that you will receive nothing but the absolute best in club fitting no matter what your ability level.

What makes a KZG fitting different?

Posted on May 25, 2018

What makes a KZG fitting different?

When you come to KZG to be fit for golf clubs, you will experience a fitting second to none.

We begin with an in depth interview of your game and a full analysis of your current equipment. All of this aids our Master Clubfitter in determining the best route to take to enable you to improve your golf game instead of just purchasing another set of clubs.

When you are brought back into the private fitting bays some static measurements are taken.  You will then be guided through a thorough fitting session.  Using a variety of technology, including a Dual Track Man, Fit Chip and TOMI for putters, we will analyze the best shaft option (material, weight, flex), clubhead type, loft, length, lie, grip and make up a set to match your game, your swing and your goals.

The process doesn’t stop there. Your new clubs are then custom built EXACTLY to the specifications you and your Master Clubfitter determined were best for your game. Once your clubs are completed, you will receive a scheduled check up with your fitter to ensure that they are performing as designed.  Slight adjustments in lie and loft may be made to fine tune your game and each of your clubs.

If you have been fit before but were not happy with the process or the outcome come and see us. You will be treated like a golfer who wants to improve your game and not just another sale.  Come in and experience a clubfitting the way it should be done!

Why getting fitted for your putter can improve your game

Posted on May 24, 2016

Missing too many short putts? Have a garage or closet full of old putters? Having trouble with your speed control?   Maybe I can help you shed some light as to why.

DS1-Satin_Front-250Often you will go into golf shops at a course and not see any clubs on the rack nowadays except for the putter. This is a quick sell for the man/woman who is having trouble with their putting and who thinks that buying a new putter will lead instantly to less three putts. Unfortunately, these putters will be the same length, lie angle, loft and weight as their last one. So what they are really buying is more of the same.
People say that putting is half the game. It may not quite be a full half for a lot of people but it is most certainly the most used club in the bag. Does this not make it the most important to be fitted correctly?
How many times have you been on the golf course and noticed that everyone has the same putting stroke? None? Me either. People are finally starting to come around to the fact that their golf clubs should be fit and built to their swing, body type and game style but they neglect to do the same for the putter. They consistently buy an off the rack, standard everything putter.
A putter with the correct length and lie will get you into the correct set up position to enable you to make a good putting stroke allowing you to roll the ball down the correct line. It will also be fit to you for weight so that it will fit your natural tempo and give you more control over your speed. The head style should match your natural club path (big arc, slight arc or straight back and through).
The most over looked part of the putter is the loft. The correct loft of putter for your stroke will allow the ball to be lifted out of the slight indentation in the grass and get your ball into a pure roll earlier. The standard loft on most putters is about 3 or degrees. Depending on how you set up to the putter and how you make your stroke this could be off by a lot for your particular stroke.
When you come to be fit for your putter at the KZG Performance Center your Master Clubfitter will analyze your putting stroke, body style and tempo. They will then fit you into the correct putter for YOU allowing you to putt better more often.
Come down and let us prove to you why you need to be fit correctly for the most used club in your bag.

Why you need custom wedge fitting

Posted on May 17, 2016

Why do you need custom Wedge fitting? Do you have trouble controlling your shorts shots? Bunkers giving you trouble? You may not have the correct wedges in your bag.

trs-group250Wedge fitting is a little different from a regular iron fitting. Although some of the specs may be similar a lot of what you will be fit into will depend on what your primary use for your different wedges will be.

Let’s start with the Gap wedge. This is a club that some people still do not carry but should. It is called a Gap wedge because of the difference in loft between a modern pitching wedge and a sand wedge. A modern pitching wedge is now close to 45 degrees where it used to be closer to 50. This has created a gap in loft as the sand wedge has remained at 56 degrees. A typical Gap wedge will be either 50 or 52 degrees and will be used by most (but not all) as a full swing club. This club should create one full club difference in distance from your Pitching Wedge.

Your Sand Wedge will not only be used from sand but will also be most people’s pitching club for those shorter touch shots. The bounce angle on this club needs to be fit to the golfers swing style AND to the conditions of the course they play at most often. More bounce for soft deep sand and softer more lush turf and less bounce for firmer conditions. Then we have the digger/driver type of swing and the sweeper/slider style. Both require different bounce angles on their wedges.

The Lob wedge is typically a 60-degree club although it could vary anywhere from 58 to 64 with some people carrying more than one. This club is used mostly for trouble shots around the green where you don’t have much room to roll the ball after it lands, although more and more you will see good players using this wedge almost exclusively for chipping and pitching but this takes a high level of skill. The bounce angle on this club is fit much the same way as the sand wedge is but it could be different depending on how a golfer plays their trouble shots.

When you visit The KZG Performance Center in Palm Desert for your fitting we will ensure that your wedges are custom fit for your style of play, type of golf course and distances you use them from. This will give you the confidence you should have in your approach, pitching and chip shots.

KZG Performace Center – Why do golfers need custom fitted Golf Clubs?

Posted on January 19, 2016

Brad Whalen Club Analysis

Why do golfers need custom fitted golf clubs? Here at KZG Performance Center, we have some of the world’s best Custom Fitters available to help you improve your game.

Hi there. I’m Brad Whalen from KZG Performance Center, master club fitter at our new Palm Desert location and we’re here to talk to you today about our club analysis section — why we do it, how we do it and what it does for us and the golfer.

What we do here, is we try and find the current specs of our customer’s golf clubs. What it does for us is it gives us ideas and clues as to what we’re going to do in the club fitting. It also helps us find which clubs that they hit good, which ones they hit bad and it shows us all the discrepancies and problems that they’re going to have with their mass-produced golf clubs.

Why golfers need custom fitted Golf Clubs?

What we’re going to do here is we’re going to tweak one of these golf clubs and I’m going to show you how this is done. We’ve clamped it into the clamp — graphite shafted driver. We give it a pull to make sure that it’s flowing good. Click the reset button and this tells me that this is 244 cycles on a 45-inch shaft. What we do from there is we’re going to chart that on my little frequency chart, here. What we’ve got here is one I’ve prepared earlier, just like the cooking shows.

What we find is that instead of the shafts running on a nice solid line, they end up being all over the place which is no good for the golfer. They’ve got some clubs that are extra stiff in this bag and some clubs that are regular and these were all the same set. They were built and designed and fit for this golfer. So this isn’t going to help them at all.

Our goal is to find out from this which clubs he hits good so that will be starting point when we start our club fitting session.

Here at the KZG Performance Center, we believe that custom fitting and the final build are both equally as important and we want you to come down and see us and we can show you how we can better help your game.
