Everyone wants to hit the ball 30 yards farther. Very few people come in and say “I would just like to hit my driver straight every time”.
We would like to able to do this for everyone however this is not as easy as people think it might be. Swing speed is very difficult to increase. The guarantees of 15,20 or even 30 yards coming from certain companies are simply not true. The USGA has limited the ball speed off the clubface since the early 2000’s. Drivers are just simply not hitting the ball farther.
That being said sometimes a golfer is using a driver which is just so bad for them that it is possible to gain that 30 yards, but it’s not as often as people want it to be.
Sure we could fit you for a driver which is 3 inches longer. The odd occasion when you do manage to hit the middle of the club with a square clubface you might get a little more distance out of it. However, your average driving distance will come down due to the fact that the golf club is just too inconsistent.
A common mistake is that a softer flex of shaft will increase distance, but testing has shown this to not be true. More importantly is the weight of the shaft. You should be able to make your best swing and have that shaft work for you. If the shaft is too heavy or too light you will lose control and thus lose distance.
The shaft must also match up to your tempo, load and release characteristics and of course your clubhead speed. This is not as simple as saying an “A” flex will give you more speed. Especially since there is no industry standard for shaft flex. One companies “A” flex may be another companies “S” flex. Sometimes there are even differences in flex within a company’s different lines of shafts, confusing matters even more.
A driver that is properly fit will enable you to hit the middle of the club consistently. This will increase your AVERAGE driving distance giving you the confidence to hit the ball harder and farther, without the fear of losing it offline as often. Simply put you will be able to hit your best drives more often.
Our fitters are some of the very best in the industry and will be able to help you find the perfect driver head and shaft combination that will maximize your distance AND accuracy.
